The Rich History of Chanderi
Chanderi is a town in the Ashoknagar district of Madhya Pradesh, the city is a doorway to a glorious past of the medieval city that is as beautiful as a poem written in stone. The city finds mention in the epic Mahabharata and has been highlighted in Mughal memoirs and travelogues. Chanderi is surrounded by hills, lakes, and forests and the Kirti Durga or the Chanderi fort stands even today as a crown jewel guarding the age-old city. Chanderi is dotted with several monuments of the Bundela Rajputs and Malwa sultans which have inspired the zari work on the Chanderi sarees.

The Chanderi saree is well known for its lightness where the motifs seem to float in a sea of nothingness which earns it the title of ‘woven air’. The transparency and unique glow makes Chanderi sarees a textile to treasure and the intricately woven zari borders and pallus appear to be molten gold, imparting an exquisite richness to the Chanderi silk cotton sarees. About the Collection
Navya is the first designer collection from The House of Nalli and the handcrafted Chanderi sarees take inspiration from Indian flowers: Dhatura, Parijat, Rose, Hibiscus, Champa, Lotus, Brahmakamal, and Marigold. All the motifs are designed in-house and woven applying the age-old technique of ‘ek- naal’ and ‘do-naal’ on jaala looms in the ancient city of Chanderi. A contemporary approach has been taken while designing the borders and the pallus, where traditional pallus of Chanderi sarees have been modified to simpler, minimalistic, and balanced weave structures. The collection aims at reviving the long-lost tradition of weaving in Chanderi with a modern touch.

This collection of lightweight Chanderis is an ode to the feminine spirit. Graceful, buoyant, and vibrant, our chanderis are woven with the finest handspun silk and cotton and adorned with floral motifs in a riot of joyful colors.
